Lincoln Electric and Arc Welding Open History Channel Program on Welding
Network's "Modern Marvels" Showcases Welding History, Processes and Technology

Lincoln expert Duane Miller, manager of the company's Welding Design Center, is featured in the History Channel's Modern Marvels on Welding.

Lincoln Electric and arc welding will be front and center on the History Channel's May 9 episode of "Modern Marvels" – a documentary series which looks at everyday modern technology, mechanics and science and investigates their origin, passage through time and impact on today's world.

"Modern Marvels: Welding" will take an in-depth look at the "ingenuity, invention and imagination" of welding during the one-hour episode – with the first act focusing on arc welding, the world's most popular welding method.

The arc welding segment, which also talks about skyscrapers, opens with views 38 stories up from the Las Vegas strip on the steel-beam frame of the under-construction Venetian Palazzo hotel, slated to be the world's largest hotel and resort complex and where welders are the first wave of the construction crew.

The program goes on to examine the history, technology and various methods of arc welding. It also discusses safety requirements, its unprecedented contributions to construction and manufacturing, and the technological advances that have been made through the years.

Much of the filming for act one was performed on site at Lincoln Electric's Cleveland, Ohio, headquarters. And three Lincoln experts will be featured in the final show, including Duane Miller, manager of the company's Welding Design Center; Dennis Klingman, manager of technical training; and Carl Peters, director of technical training.

The program will also look at other welding processes, including explosion, underwater, robotic and friction welding.
