2022 Steel Weldments and Steel Structures Seminars

Blodgett's Design of Welded Connections: Steel Structures

Lincoln Electric has added a new component to its annual lineup of its Blodgett Seminars for Steel Structures. In addition to the traditional coursework, our Design of Welded Connections: Steel Structures seminar will now take a closer look at AWS D1.5 standards.

The Structural Steel Connections seminar is for individuals involved in the building and designing of steel buildings, bridges, towers, and other structures of tomorrow. Welding enables structural engineers and architects complete design freedom when building steel structures.

This intensive one-week seminar is for structural engineers in the building/bridge/civil structures industry and fabricators, erectors and inspectors.

Seminar Name:
Design of Welded Connections: Steel Structures

Seminar Cost:
$900.00

Seminar Location:
Lincoln Electric Welding Technology & Training Center

Blodgett's Design of Welded Connections: Steel Weldments

Manufacturing and welding engineers should mark their calendars for Lincoln Electric's popular Blodgett Seminar, Design of Weldment Connections: Steel Weldments!

Lincoln Electric's Blodgett Weldment seminars offer 36 hours of coursework across a whole week of training, providing 3.6 CEUs for individuals who design equipment used for construction, agriculture, material handling and other general purposes. The seminars focus on AWS D14 standards and connections subject to static, cyclic and shock loading. The program will have a concentrated emphasis on fatigue.

This seminar is for construction, agriculture, and the material handling industries for design engineers associated with steel weldments in manufacturing.

The Blodgett Weldments seminar is an extensive one-week seminar on designing welded connections for manufactured products and machinery following Omer Blodgett's theoretical analysis, problem-solution examples and case history studies with a concentrated emphasis on cyclic fatigue.

Omer Blodgett

Omer Blodgett was a world-renowned authority on the design of welded connections and was influential in developing national standards for the code of the American Welding Society. He was a structural welder, educator and author.

In 1963, Mr. Blodgett authored Design of Weldments. In 1966, Mr. Blodgett authored Design of Welded Structures. These books are considered the foundation for the entire design field of welding. Mr. Blodgett made complex issues simple and easy to understand. He coined many phrases still in use by structural welders today.

Mr. Blodgett grew up welding. After college, he worked for Globe Shipbuilding Company, learning how to troubleshoot and resolve welding issues. During World War II, Omer supervised 400 welders who fabricated 29 all-welded oceangoing ships for the Federal Maritime Commission. In 1945, he met James F. Lincoln, who invited him to work for Lincoln Electric. Blodgett accepted and worked at Lincoln Electric in a variety of roles: sales, design consultant and as a mechanical engineer, until his retirement in 2009.
